Discovered my old Woolwich Equitable Building Society Book

I have came across my old Woolwich building society share account book, dating back to 1988 when a local branch existing in my town. The branch has since closed down and I have a £22.68 balance remaining. Does anyone know if there is anyway I can recover this money? I know it's not much but the balance is better in my pocket than someone else's.
