Selling collectables...

Options
Hi - First off this is my first post so go easy on me! :)

Hopefully I have put this in the right place -

My husband has a LOT of Guinness collectables ranging from cars/trucks to figures, ties etc, he wants to sell them as we don't have the room in our house to display them in their full glory - it would need at least 3 full length display cases! He has said he would rather sell them and put the money towards our new baby due in 5 weeks!

He doesn't want to sell them on ebay - from what we have seen on there they are not going for their true value or are having to be listed about 5/6 times to catch the right persons eye.

I have been on google all morning looking for Guinness collectable buyers etc but I don't seem to be coming up with anything. Does anyone have any ideas of where we could sell the collection? We're in Essex if that helps...

Just thought whilst I have the time before baby gets here and I'm on materninty leave it could be the perfect timing.

Any ideas greatly welcomed!

It could be that the value of these items has fallen in recent months, many items on eBay are selling at less than they did earlier in the year or are just not selling. Money could be tight, certain items may have lost their appeal or less people are collecting, not wanting the clutter.

Remember the value of an item is what someone else is willing to pay for it.

I did a similar thing recently and was shocked at what did and didn't sell, and sadly at the prices they fetched.
We waited until free listing weekends to really make it work for us and I admit to feeling down at the thought of having to type out 100's of adverts, although a template and "sell another item" helped a fair bit.
Stuff sold, some didn't, we made some money and it helped.
We made a conscious decision that after two free listings it went to the charity shop (I despise car boot sales).

The only collection we kept was the Elvis stuff, original pressings, signatures and a whole lotta highly collectable stuff that cost a fortune to amass.
We held this back because the market is flat, we approached dealers and collectors alike and they all offered on it, but less than we hoped for and they all offered consistant prices which suggests that was the going rate.

You have to bite the bullet and decide how much you need the space and how much you need the money.
The prices you get on eBay are sadly the market prices, you are not getting, "less than it's worth".

Ebay is actually a good market. I buy from Bricks and mortar auctions and have bought Guinness collectables and made a profit by reselling them on ebay. So for me ebay is the higher end of the market as you get the overseas bidders that will bump the prices up.

However, it is worth trying a bricks and mortar auction if you want to sell the lot in one go and don't mind a slightly lower price but with less complications.
