New job help with travel route please

Hello all,
I have got a job in Farnham in Surrey but I live in Milton Keynes. I can't relocate because I have got 2 kids in school and a working husband. I have to take the job, we need the money.
The travel cost isn't a problem because it's a highly specialised field and pays very well. Please can someone help....what's the most convenient way of doing the commute and routes too. Driving is not an option as it's too far and I know I will feel sleepy.
All advice welcome, thanks as always.

When do you start?
Who's going to look after kids or do they already have childcare? If so, can hubby pick them up?
How did you get to interview? Could you not do same thing again?

Congratulations on the new role, Farnham is a pretty market town, though a little too white middle class conservative england for my tastes.
The other downside of the place is that it is on a rubbish little rail branch line and few buses. TBH with the distances involved I cannot think of any commute that is going to be sensible other than driving.
Going by train you are going to have to go into, across and then back out of London which is going to be circa 2.5 hours and expensive as going across zone 1
Any driving + train option I checked only helps on the cost a little but extends the commuting time.0 -

You will need to enter your work times to see the routes. A travelcard is the most cost-effective, preferably via an interest free loan from your employer. You will be able to go via Central London, or possibly Clapham, if memory of a long past visit to MK serves.
If you can take a route via Clapham Junction, you might find it cheaper to get a travel card that does not permit Zone 1 travel. It does restrict your options, but would be cheaper. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

If your going via clapham junction it would be:
Milton Keynes to Watford Junction
Watford Junction to Clapham Junction
Clapham Junction to Woking
Woking to Farnham
With this route you dont need a travel card at all as you can get a normal season ticket at £535 a month0 -
It's going to be a long long day with all this travelling.
2 hrs 2 mins to get you there by say 8.40am
Train - Milton Keynes To Euston
Tube - Nothern Line to Waterloo
Train - Waterloo to Woking (1 stop)
Train - Working to Farnham (4 stops)
OR
Trains all the way 2 hrs 32- 51 mins
Milton Keynes to Watford
Watord to Clapham Junction
C. Junction to Farnham0 -

.
Those two points seem to be contradictory but if money isn't a problem I'd go for either the quickest or easiest (fewest changes) route. Alternatively, I'd consider making your life a bit easier by staying in the Farnham area for a couple of nights a week.0 -

Going via Clapham would be cheaper, but both Milton Keynes and Farnham are outside the Travelcard area, so a Travelcard wouldn't be of use.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Hello everyone,
To answer a few questions;
Hubby took me to the interview..before we went we thought driving would be the best option but it was a long journey and put paid to that idea. Kids are sorted with him so I don't have to worry about that.
Thanks Dunroamin, I agree it is contradictory the latter part should say convenient-will change.
Thanks MissSarah1972, I think the shorter time line of 2 hr 2 mins is my best option. I did think of driving and then taking the train but can find no route that works.
I appreciate it all. Cheers0
