Taxes - Help!

Basically, I'm trying to fill out my tax return at the moment and I am seriously confused. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate your advice.
Back in October 2011 I moved to Canada to work for 1 year. While I've been away, I've been in a full time job paying Canadian taxes. When I left the UK I filled out a P85 form to try to get my taxes right but was informed I needed to fill out a full tax return.
I'm currently in the process of filling out my 2011-2012 tax return (when I was in the UK I was part employed with PAYE tax and part self-employed but all of my UK earnings stopped when I left the country) but I've got to a stage where I'm majorly confused

I'm not sure whether I need to pay UK tax on the earnings from Canada. None of the earnings for that tax year were ever transferred into my UK bank account as they were paying my bills to live in Canada. Looking at the definitions I am still a UK resident (I think). Some of the help sheets on the HMRC website say that I do pay tax and others are so full of jargon that I really don't know what I need to do.
If anybody has any advice, I'd really appreciate it!
Thank you!

I doubt that anyone on here is likely to know - I'd ring them, IIWY.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
