Sainsbury's Basics Pork Shoulder

Basics Pork Shoulder at £2.99/kg hasn't been in stock (or labelled anywhere on the shelf) in my local Sainsbury's recently - does anyone know if this is being discontinued? Would also appreciate suggestions for alternatives - there seems to be a big gap between that band diced pork shoulder at £4.49/kg. I've also got Aldi & Lidl near me.

  • Thanks for the reply. I could shop online, but I've never done so - is it not the case that the pork shoulder would only be available if stocked in my local store? And presumably delivery costs would also wipe out any saving?

Boneless pork leg is only slightly more expensive than the shoulder at £3.19/Kg

It would depend if the store you checked at if it would be the store that would deliver your shopping. Is it the only store ? Id suggest going to customer services either in store or online (email or facebook) and put in a product request for it, could be its just been discontinued but 1 of the 3 options you will get an answer.

Thanks, I was vaguely aware of that promotion, but couldn't find it in store either. Now that you mention it though, I suppose it's possible that they're temporarily not stocking the shoulder to encourage sales of leg - worth keeping an eye on.
  • I asked instore today hoping I might get some indication of whether it's being discontinued etc, and neither of two members of staff had ever even heard of this, and denied all knowledge of ever selling it! Which is odd, since I could tell them exactly where it was placed and how much it cost only a few weeks ago.

OP id email them, cant understand why you got the response you did from the store. You could register for sainsbury's online delivery and see if the item is listed there which would tell me/you that the shopping could from another store, just be aware that there might be a delay from the item disappearing from the shelves to it disappearing from the website.
  • Online stores are normally the big supermarkets or hypermarkets and with a petrol station. The clues usually when you see vans in the car park, petrol station or generally moving in and out.
