This is Liverpool. They take access with 7 grade a and b at gcse. It is hard and it is not just time- it is very competitive. The access generally replaces a levels not a levels and gcse.

She's 22, she's got plenty of time to take GCSEs and A-Levels and then apply.

I have no idea if she's capable of A grades, but neither have you.

Possibly but funding for 22 year olds to do these (and actually finding anywhere that would offer academic gcse and a level for 22 year olds) is very hard. The funding changes have focused colleges in other directions. Science a levels are much harder to self teach unlike say history as you need access to practical activity. Post 19 education is not targeted or funded at this level.

If money was no object then an independent college that tailors courses (an old style crammer) is an option but at up to £30k a year (you could probably do it in 2 if academically very able). The cost means it is not an option for most.

The point I was making was not about getting the exams but that even with them it is very competitive which is what the Liverpool link shows.
