From what I recall, we budgeted £300 last time based on DH telling me what he thought might be wrong, but we ended up only having to replace the windscreen wipers. We got a combined service + MOT for £200."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

ah thanks for that. im thinking £200 but hoping it wont be that much.
i think my windscreen wipers will need replaced too0 -
It depends on the type and age of the car really. I never bothered getting my old Fiesta serviced and would need to spend maybe £100 on top of each MOT. This year my service on a 9 year old Yaris cost me £300 (although I did take it to a Toyota garage) but the MOT only cost me £11.... I'd always be tempted to overbudget! Don't forget tyres tooSavings target: £25000/£25000

I have recently changed car & reduced my figure from £35 / month to £30 / month (the £5 is going towards the incr in car tax!) so the new figure will be £360.
That incl everything - I had to get new tyres which were £140 so a fairly big chunk out of that is gone before I even think of service, MOT, other bits needing replaced and quite likely that I'll have to spend that each year (eg replace front set year 1, do back set year 2 etc).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I allow at least £500 for a 2004 citroen Xsarra Picasso. Car failing its MOT seems to be a recurring financial disaster for me and has racked up the CCs several times. Better safe than sorry.0

£500 fund....then the excess each year can be carried over. In a few years you may get lucky and get a few mots "free" out this pot!:eek:Living frugally at 24

Our 2005 Zafira cost nearly £400 for MOT and service this year. Mind you it was the only garage bill we had for 12 months so not bad going when you average it out.
My husbands 04 van went through the MOT for £60 so you just dont know.
I hate MOT time, even though I save up, hope it goes OK.0 -
When it comes to unexpected expenses that really damage your finances cars have to be number one, I reckon it can't be far off cheaper to lease a new car and not get the repair bills sometimes.0
