Venue unable to give fixed fee?

  • I had exactly the same predicament. It was £1000 deposit, they could confirm the hire price but wouldn't confirm the food and drink prices until 6 months before the wedding. They said that the prices should only go up with their costs but it's already caused me quite a bit of stress, I contacted them this year to factor in the increase in the last year into my budget and it had gone up £700! I managed to negotiate a compromise but we'll no doubt have to have the same stress next spring when we they've put the prices up again!
Unfortunately we both loved the venue and there was nothing else with a similar set up that wasn't massively more expensive to start with.
If there are other venues in contention I'd give them serious thought, it's added stress you don't need if avoidable.
  • Although they may be legitimate, I'd not be happy giving my money to them for a date so far in advance without a total amount known in advance. Had my fingers burned and no longer do anything so big without an agreement in writing in advance. Run a mile.
:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A
