:) Hi

Can someone who has been on JSA before please tell me how long it takes for a p45 to arrive from the job center. If i closed my job seekers claim today, how long will it take.

the thing is i am starting work next monday and i need the p45 but my claim date ends on 23.09.12, job center are saying i should wait for the claim to end. But i am thinking should i just close it now and loose the 1 weeks allowance and save myself hassle of getting emergency tax code.

I pressume then i will not be getting the p45 before monday if i close the account today

There is no hassle involved with an emergency tax code, indeed the P45 will proberbly either be the same code as emergency tax but applied in a different way or it will be an emergency tax code. The important thing to remember is to get onto emergency tax by filling in a P46, some employers do not bother to offer a P46 unless it is requested and then put new employees onto 0T tax code. Once you are on emergency tax you will get the basic tax allowance most people get and any tax adjustment that may be due will be applied either when the P45 is handed in or if the P45 is not cumulative then when the tax office advise full details to the employer.
