'Very' dissapointed

Options
Hi,
Why on earth do companies accepted applications then change their minds after a couple of day? It's so annoying!
In my case it was Very.co.uk.
I got a letter asking me to open a credit account and also giving me a code for £15 off a £25 spend. Great I thought and I applied and was 'immediately' accepted giving me a credit limit of £600....that's xmas sorted I thought. I placed a small order to begin with and was given a delivery day of today (17/09/12) but the order was still saying 'order being processed' so I emailed them, they got back and said 'unfortunately we've been unable to authorise it' and I would need to speak to an advisor....0844? no thanks, so I continued to email them and they said someone from a 'specialist team' would contact me....and they did. The phone rang and I answered straight away and they put the phone down and now my 'account summery' now says 0.00 credit limit and my order status now says credit rejected  Why can't they say no straight away???
This happend to me with Barclaycard too.....got accepted, they even sent the card to me, then changed their mind!
Why oh why can't you get a straight answer anymore??

If i were you i would check your credit file
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.
  • i opened an acc with very on saturday.. first credit ive been able to get in 5 years!! and they gave me £400 (before people start going on about wanting credit and abusing it.. i did that ONCE before with 3mobile when i was 17 and thats what has left me with no chance of credit for soooo long.. so i wont be doing that again) I ordered hubs a jacket for his birthday using a £25 voucher so costing me £25 and it arrived this morning. i was worried they would take the credit away as jmc i think they are called did last year after i ordered the christmas presants and thought that was sorted.. i am using the acc wisely as im now about to pay for the jacket in full so fingers crossed i get some greens on my now empty credit file :) all i can say is it happend to me before so im just assuming i wasnt ready for credit according to my file, have you checked yours?? x
    Overdraft £1500 / £790
    Credit Card £200 / £0 :j
  • Yep so damn annoying..... le redoute catalogue came through my door ... I did not request it , but the offer was so good ... £15 off a minimum £20 spend and free poncho ! So had a flick through , picked out a couple of items just over £20 ...then tried to order online as was 0844 no. Would not accept codes or the account no they sent me...spent half a day , then found a freephone no.... advisor on phone said system was down so she tried to do it manually from her end, to no avail... asked me to ring back tomorrow... what a carry on do they want my custom or not... in the end I never rang back too much hassle ! Then I read the very very small print at bottom which said discount only on full price items in leaflet ...of which there were only about 4 garments whose prices well swallowed up the deal !!!

IF SOMETHING SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS LOL .
  • Thats not good at all folks, very annoying. However why would you want to purchase from these catalogue type companies? They are way over priced anyway and the interest they charge you is normally ridiculous! You have had a close escape in my book,

Indeed a close escape, the APR was 44.7%!
I have already signed up for my credit file with Experian and to be honest it's a poor one! So yes I can see why companies don't want to take a risk with me.....but at least give me a straight yes or no.

You can pay it all off in one go if you want, and at least with very you get 3 months to pay for new purchases with no interest charged. It's all about managing your money.

Except in neither case was the purchaser looking to buy until they received the letter/catalogue, therefore until they received these they were managing their money, ie not spending it. They received unsolicited mail and immediately the money managing went out the window.
  • If you got rejected by very you must have something significant in your credit history. They lend to almost anyone- they have a high risk high interest lending model.

Not all catalogue companies charge more than the high street. Very are often top of the price comparison lists.

Is this correct? I thought you had to be 18 to obtain credit.
