Bank accounts for bankrupt people

I was made BR in Nov 2009
i've just opened a Full Current Account with Barclays (thought I would try)
I've been sent a cheque book and a cheque guarantee card.
(I will admit my job isnt amazing but my pay isn't bad for the area i live in and its not a lot but i've managed to save a few hundred pounds)
Plus i've had a mobile contract paid for 12 months - started with a sim only deal
and i've had a vanquis card which I've put all my petrol and food on - and paid off in full each month.
Good luck give them a try what is the worst they can say? No?Total Weight Loss - 28lb and countingAD 17/11/20100 -
can I ask have you any CCjs or just defaults, its just that the barclays full account ask that you must not have ccjs.
thanks

Oh i dont know - i've not started my file clean up yet (yes i know its been 3 years)
I did have CCJ's but they would be about 8 years old now so they should have dropped off my fileTotal Weight Loss - 28lb and countingAD 17/11/20100 -
Thanks Curly and John.
And no I don't have CCJs or defaults on my file - nor does my hubby. We both have just the bankruptcy.. We paid everything in full and on time for 30 years and have never claimed one single benefit til the age of 43! So maybe we will try and get a better bank account now.

As long as the bankruptcy remains on your credit file you will struggle to get a full current account from a bank.
During that six year period there is no harm in asking, some may review your account after a few years if you have managed your account well they may look into upgrading.
That's what the coop told me, but that's not for definite.
I got a full current account with Lloyds a year after discharge, cheque book debit card everything. Didnt even have to appeal either, just tapped my details into the computer and it offered a choice of a few accounts.
Can someone clarify how this works, does your history pre bankruptcy count, (mine was impeccable) and does the fact you have cleared up your credit files make a big difference. I just cant work out why some people have problems and others dont. Even when I was BR, nat west let me keep my full current account open. with card and cheque book.
Likewise I havent had problems with phone contracts, insurances sky tv etc, al monthly payments. Tbh its almost like I never went BR.0
