CCJ Payed Off 3 years ago

Thanks in advance for any advice given, much appreciated.

Got into a little bit of debt 6 years ago and defaulted on a couple of loans.Got a CCJ on 1st May 2001 from one company around £2000 in value and made arrangements with a couple of others to make reduced payments.Payed off the CCJ around 3 years ago but never sent off for a letter of satisfaction from the County Court. Is it worth me doing that now or does the CCJ get removed automatically after 6 years(NEXT MONTH).??Also got the 2 defaulted loans that i have since payed off(around 2 years ago) in full showing on my Experain report as !!8} which are also 6 years old in May,,will my Credit worthyness improve automatically when the 6 years are up????.

No advice I'm afraid but as I'm in the same boat as you I will be interested in any answers.

Without actually checking I think I have had about 4 CCJ's in the past - all are now satisfied and at least 2 over 6 years ago. Have had defaults too, again all now paid.

Became debt free (apart from Mortagage) 2 years ago this month but still dont seem to be able to get ANY credit - I have not actually looked at my report for a while though so it could be worth getting an update!!

I used the free Experian report that you can get via quidco.Looking at at homw improvements this time next year so if these are removed automatically could make a big differance(i hope)

I would suggest that you DO ask the court for a 'Certificate of Satisfaction' as some CRA's are notoriously slow when it comes to removing CCJ's and Defaults from your record.
I think there is a charge of £10.00 - this may have increased since I last got one (5 years ago), but I had been refused credit and when I sent the copy of the certificate to the creditor he reversed the decision. I didn't, fortunately, take the credit as it left a bitter taste in my mouth that I had had to go through all of that, when the credit was only for £1100.00.

Can't help with the CCJ question, but regarding the defaults, the CRAs will remove these automatically when the 6 year period is up. I've had several removed this last year by Equifax & Experian that were put on in 2000 without any reminder or prompting. Clearly, this lack of defaults showing on your files will make you appear far more creditworthy than if they were still there.

You no longer need to get a certificate of satisfation (which costs £15) once you have repaid a county court judgment. As long as the court is told the debt is repaid, they will automatically notify Registry Trust Ltd, which then tells the credit reference agencies. It is sensible, however, to check your credit reports about a month later to make sure the changes have taken place.
