Can you raise the presser foot up ok? If not it sounds like its the needle bar has gone and if it is its pricey :( just paid £180 for mine to be fixed.I can strip down and fix most stuff but this needed new parts etc..then its trying to track down a decent mechanic..ask me how I know :rotfl:
Is it a drop in bobbin or does it have a seperate bobbin case? Have you checked wether the teeth underneath have been knocked out of line, sometimes a screw comes loose without you noticing.
Most other suggestions have been made already um..if it won't turn at all its not the foot pedal gone, and usually if its cotton jamming it up it will still turn although 'under protest' when tried by hand.

ooh afterthought!! Have you any sewing machine oil?? A drop of that on the underneath and on the teeth etc can sometimes free it up it may be just seized up if it hasn't been oiled or used for a time just wipe the excess off after oiling and gently work the needle up and down by hand

Take it back and get a refund?

(Then go and buy a nice solid vintage hand crank, usually about £20-£25 around my end of the world.)
