Pick up at Glasgow airport, parking while waiting for the plane to land

I shall be picking up someone at Glasgow Airport, the plane lands at approx 21:05.

I live in Dundee so about 2 or so hours driving.

Is there any place that I can park and wait for a phone call when the passengers are coming out the airport door?

Usually I park and stay at the Normanday hotel but this time I am not going on holiday just picking up.

I was thinking of waiting there, in the bar but not drinking, but is there any place nearer?

i usually wait at the braehead shopping centre.
    that way i'm not bored
and its only a few minutes - (2 exits)
drive up the road to the airport

it's open til 9 except weekends and public holidays
can't do it at rush hour though.

If you are familiar with the Normandy you could park anywhere around there. When you get the call it's only a couple of minutes over the iron bridge and first left into Abbotsinch road, which is the back road into the airport. There is no traffic there so no delays.

  • Would I get away with parking in the Holiday Inn car park at that time of the night, if I went inside to enquire about something then sat in the bar nursing an orange juice until I got my call?

If not, I suppose it will be the Normandy, unless I can time it right.

Anyone know how long it takes to leave the airport if the plane lands at 9:05 in the evening.

Just park on the street near the Normandy and wait for the call. I assume that you won't be leaving home until you have checked the ETA of the flight. If so then you will be able to judge when to arrive within a few minutes so you should not have long to wait.

It depends on how many flights arrive at a similar time, if lots of people are coming through Customs or not. Generally, if its not too busy, its about 20-25 minutes from getting off the plane, through Customs, getting your cases and out the terminal. At Glasgow,. the pick up point is about 100 yards away from the terminal and waiting is restricted to almost the blink of an eye ! You often dont get the chance to sit waiting for more than a couple of minutes.

I'd be in the vicinity, Inchinnan Road or whatever and go into the Multi-storey when you get the phone call. It'll cost you a quid, but your tired passengers can walk through the internal bridge and get you there.

The dedicated pick up and drop off car park is not in the multi storey. It's at the south end as you come in.

booler any idea why I suggested the convenient multi-storey car park that passengers can walk to in the enclosed bridge that costs £1 for >10 minutes, or the "dedicated" pick-up point that costs the same, but is 200m away out in the open? I guess if the OP wanted simply to follow GAs signs he could have done that, or driven on to the other "convenient" car park 3 that is currently closed (and out of towners don't find that out until they get there and have to drive all round the loop again!)

    None at all. ;oP

The pick up car park actually costs £1 for 15 minutes BTW (from memory).
