before you buy any form of mp4/mp3 player on ebay please check our https://www.mympxplayer.org
Most (nearly all) players on ebay are 'hacked'
This means the sellers on ebay are making the player look like it has more memory than it actually has! lots of people fall for this so please see the site linked. I just have one word about the 8GB Players on ebay... AVOID... none of them are 8GB
This has been going on for some time on ebay now and the worst case i have read about is someone buying a so called 8GB player on ebay and it turned out to be only 128MB!
Just letting you all know, Beware!0 -
I purchased a Frontier Labs NEX3+ 1 month ago. The FM transmitter is missing from the menu. I have communicated my concer to Frontier Labs but have gotten no response.0

Hey TuneToy,
What version is your firmware? I'm running v2.02.018 and my option for "FM Transmitter" is in between "Play Options" and "LCD".
I think you need to install this firmware to 'enable' the FM Transmitter bit. However, I've just checked their website and there don't appear to be any firmwares to download on any of their models! Duh.
Anyway, I have a copy of it if you need. It's a 3.3MB ZIP file. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll wip it over.

Hi timboid, how long do these NEX3's last on 1 battery? Seem hard to find in the UK except on Ebay via HK. But they are cheap. I assume the fm transmitter bit does not really work in a car for practical purposes but curious to know about that too.0

I purchased a Frontier Labs NEX3+ in July 2007 and it does NOT have the FM transmitter! I have submitted several RMAs and emails to the site and received no reply. :mad:Russyfoot / sandy2,
I, too, use my MP3 player more for audiobooks than music. SanDisk have a range of players that have both a fixed memory capacity and an expansion slot that takes either an SD card or, more recently, microSD cards.
I used to use a SanDisk MP3 Companion which worked with their Cruzer Micro USB stick, but I found it was too easy to jog the tracks.
Now I use a Frontier Labs NEX3+ (www.frontierlabs.com) which has no in-built memory, but takes SD cards (I use a selection of 1GB SanDisk Ultra II Plus SDs which have a built-in USB connector). It also takes standard or rechargeable AAA batteries (about 7 hours playback time), has an FM radio and FM transmitter (for use in the car) and built-in voice recorder ... how about that!! Admittedly, I found the FM transmitter a bit weak 'cos a modern car's 'shell' is so thick, the aerial can't pick up the signal. It's small and compact and has a rubberised outer coating to protect it from bangs and knocks, comes in various colours but only has a monochrome LCD.
For those audiobooks that are in one great big glob of a file, I use an MP3 Splitter to divide them into 10 or 20MB chunks, then if the battery goes, I can skip forward to relevant chunk and continue. There are loads of free ones you can download off the web.
By the way, both the SanDisk and NEX3+ players mentioned above DO continue from where you left off if you switch the player off, but not if the battery flakes out during play.
Hope this helps!0 -
Did you take up timboid's offer of updated firmware to make the transmitter bit work?0

Hello buglawton
I use 800mAh Ni-MH batteries and can get about 6 or 7 hours of playback (depending on how many times I switch the unit on and off: the more tracks you stuff onto the SD card, the more time it has to 'assess' the contents).
In my original post about this model, the FM Transmitter wasn't brilliant because (in my opinion):
a) My car aerial wasn't that good or was just about too far away from the actual unit (I used to have a Golf Mk4 where the aerial is at the back of the car and the 'transmitter' is at the front - so that doesn't help!)
b) The UK has too many FM stations crowding the airwaves and it's really hard to pick a frequency that doesn't get overwhelmed at some point in your journey.
A few reviews dotted about the WWW seemed to have tested the transmitter in the US with reasonably good success, but when you consider the size of that place, it's probably going to work much better when you have 1000 miles of desert highway to travel through!!
So although I was kind of hoping that the built-in FM transmitter would be good, I wasn't particularly relying on it as the sole basis for buying the NEX.
Yes, the units are almost non-existent in the UK. I bought mine through eBay.
I can sympathise with TuneToy's frustrations in contacting FrontierLabs: when I discovered a 'bug' in the way it plays MP3s randomly, I had to wait ages for a response from them after reporting it. And even then, they just said to download and install the latest firmware, which I already had. Oh well, I hardly ever listen to music on it anyway.
