How to Challenge an Income Payment Agreement

  • I promised an update so here it is....

I made the call to the OR back end of last week to say I was not happy and some circumstances had changed. They said the examiner would call or write to me and not to worry about returning the IPA.

Within half an hour the examiner was calling me!! I didn't have all my info to hand as I was at work and they wanted to go into every detail about what had changed and why..(I suspect they realised discharge date was imminent). Eventually after a 45 min conversation the examiner said they would send out a new I&E which had to be returned within 7 days with proof and reciepts for absolutely everything!! I suppose this was the result I was hoping for so was quite content.

I immedietly called my wife to give her the news and whilst on the phone to her the examiner calls back! I took the call with a great deal of apprehension..

Turns out he went through my file in more detail after the call and decided that as I had claimed way below the guidlines in most areas of my expenditure he was not going to persue an IPA, I should return the one I had unsigned or tear it up and bin it, and I would not be hearing from the OR again!!!

Thanks for all the help and support from you all! I will continue to look in and offer my help or experience to others when I can!

Good news flapjackman, glad it worked out, Unfortunatly to many people often see the OR as the enemy and hopefully your example shows them that nearly always the best thing to do is to ring them up and discuss the matter with them and explain your case as they can only go on the information that they have to hand.

Fantastic new flapjackman! I am so glad about this, that you don't have to have an IPA. Like I said originally, £74 a month is a sizeable chunk out of most peoples salaries, especially as everything is continually going up. So to have to fork that out for up to 3 years, when you were already struggling to make ends meet, would have been unfair imo. So that's a great result! :T
