When I met my OH he had a DMP in place and was upfront with me about his debts from the start.
The DMP finished last year, and his only default is due to drop off in the next few months.
We've talked about buying a house, but his adverse credit has always been in the way, now he's all paid off, and the final black mark is due to come off we're finally in a position to get moving forward.
However, I now have a lot of debt of my own. It's manageable, but it's getting me down because we should be starting fresh and saving, but instead we're going to have to clear my mess up first.
I should've worked harder on sorting myself out, but spent my time writing to OH's creditors and improving his credit.
My credit is fine, but I feel the amount of debt I have is going to restrict what we can borrow on a mortgage and I keep burying my head in the sand about it.
As his default date approaches, I know it's time I tried to clear my rubbish. But I just don't know where to start

How much debt do you have?3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

Well, the first step is to shred any credit cards you have and don't take on any more debt. Then get your SOA up here and the more experienced on here can help you identify savings which you can throw at your existing debt. £8k is a lot but manageable.0

Thanks for your reply, yes, the cards need to go.
I will post up my SOA shortly.

Can I be cheeky and ask how much you earn? Whether your 8K debt is a lot largely depends on your income. 8K doesn't strike me as a staggering amount of debt.0
