Same charity shop suit for a second interview?

Hi, last week I had an interview for a job, and this week I've been called back for a second interview! :) The first interview was with HR, this second one will be with people I will actually be directly working under (and I'm told if I get there will be a round three with the overall manager).

I'm pretty pleased with this as it's a job I very much want, in a very competitive industry.

The only problem is, what to wear?! My last job - and the one I am applying to - both involve wearing a uniform, so I don't really have much in the way of smart clothes.

For the first interview I scoured every charity shop in town and found a suit (from 'Next' originally) that fitted and suited me, and that plus a new blouse (couldn't find one in a charity shop) and a new pair of smart-but-sensible shoes (that I would need if I got the job anyway) pretty much ate up all my spare cash (I am currently unemployed).

I do have a smart pair of grey trousers I could wear with a blouse, but it would be a definite step down in formality. All the other candidates at the first interview were in suits.

So should I :

A. dress as smartly as I can in the suit, and hope no one notices/minds I wore it twice (bearing in mind the most 'important' people at this interview were not at the first), or

B. go for the slightly less smart in the trousers and shirt, knowing if I get through round 2 I can return to the suit for the final interview?

Any thoughts, advice and/or encouragement please! :)

Don't worry about wearing the same suit, I wear suits everyday for my job and I don't have a limitless supply of them, so I often end up wearing the same one I did last time I was in that customer. Most of the blokes I work with only seem to have one or two suits and no-one really cares.
The most important thing they will be looking for is are you smart and tidy ?and have you got the skills and experience to do the job?

Wear the suit, go forward with confidence and get the job good luck!

  • A - unless the suit were particularly memorable (lime green with light blue stripes for instance) then, even if you were seen by some of the same people as before, it is not going to be something they will recall that well.

They liked you as you were. Why would you change that?

How were the people who interviewed you dressed? How did others who weren't wearing uniform dressed? If the standard was to be business smart then it would definitely be the style to continue for the interview.

Is the uniform you would wear a suit or casual?

Wear the same suit. If you wear a uniform in the new job, they won't be expecting you to have loads of business type clothes. And I'm sure they won't remember what you were wearing anyway. As long as you are smart and make the right impression, then that's all that matters.

I wouldnt give it a second thought, wear the suit again.

Good luck, hope the interview goes well and you get the job.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

It's grey with a blue pinstripe (but the colour difference between the blue and grey is very subtle, so it just reads as grey from a distance).

I think I probably feel like its unusual, because its unusual for me to be all dressed up!, but to them I think you're probably right and they wouldn't notice.

The first round interviewers were both women wearing 'buisness-y' knee length black dresses (but they are in HR, not the department I would be working in). All other candidates were wearing suits, and the uniform I would be wearing if I got the job is a suit.
  • I'd wear the same suit too. It will probably be a completely different group of people interviewing anyway but if you are concerned that the outfit might be remembered, why not splash out on a second blouse? If you choose something that you will get wear out of afterwards it'll be an addition to your wardrobe rather than an interview outfit anyway.

The same suit is fine, don't stress!

If you can borrow a different blouse then fine, if not then the new one you bought got you the second interview so it's gotta be lucky :)

    Hope it goes well x

    Good luck.
