Calls from Creditors

How can I stop the calls from creditors??
This morning from 8am-the phone rang at few minutes intervals-but just 1 ring/2 rings/3 rings and then stopped. When I answered it-grumpy as hell (it's the school holidays after all) it was a Debt Collection Agency and I told them I would be available later.
I have asked people who contact me -Barclaycard etc that I wanted to be contacted by letter only and they still persisted. The DR people said they would not phone for 7 days but then would be in contact again....and then they say another 7 days and refuse to do it by letter. So it is as early as 8am or as late as 9pm-I keep telling them I can only afford the token payment.
What do I do?I have to answer the phone as it is a business line-some have left messages on the answerphone and another left a message with my son when he answered.
Who can I quote/threaten them with? I find the calls a nuisance and I am trying to deal with all the problems, without this additional stress esp, when working.
Any ideas please?

    Hello there Fabi,

One neat little trick is to tell them that you are recording the conversation and that you wish only to be contacted in writing. Then tell them that as you have recorded proof of this conversation, if the calls persist, you will take action against them for harrassment. Good luck.

If you've asked them to take your number off their database, and they still call I'm pretty cure it's against one of the data protection laws - someone will be along shortly to clarify.

I had something similar - I wrote a letter simply stating that I wished them to take my number off their database and correspind by letter only. I also mentioned the 15-20 calls a day I was getting (many abusive) and told them that if it didn't stop immediatley I would report them to Trading Standards. Surprisingly the calls stopped....
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

If you have asked them to contact you in writing only, yet they still phone, then report them to the Trading Standards office. I would suggest that you report them to the Trading Standards Office nearest to their Office - for example if the DCA is MACKENZIE-HALL, then report them to the Kilmarnock Trading Standards Office.
The OFT have laid down guidelines to which these people are supposed to adhere.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
