Umbrella

I managed to leave my half decent collapse-able, handbag umbrella on the bus the other day. I therefore need a new one. I don't want to get one that breaks the day it sees a spot of rain or a puff of wind. I am willing to pay more for a good investment.

Can anybody educate me about brands or one to get that would be strong and last me years?

Thanks very much.

Hi, I saw your post earlier, but wasn't sure of brands.

I'm still not sure btw :o:D however, I do know the sort you mean, I think, where the umbrella fits underneath and inside the handbag.

There are ones which are wind proof, as in they dont turn inside out because they have a opening with a flap over around the point of the umbrella, thus letting the wind out.

Youy could google wind proof unbrellas, I havn't done so, so I'm not sure what you would find.

Failing that, I would choose to buy one from any of the big four supermarkets first. Just don't go for the bargin range and you should be okay. After that I'd choose M&S or BHS

    Hi,

This sounds very exotic, I just wanted one like this really http://www.photo-dictionary.com/phrase/2875/folding-umbrella.html#b
I just don't want to be buying one every year.

    Thanks for your help.

Well no, false economy and all that :D In that case ignore the 99p shops. Yes you can buy them in our town in 99p shops, I wouldn't!

Its been a while since I bought an umbrella, infact I think it was from a shoe shop which shows you how long ago that was as I doubt shoe shops sell them now.

It was probably Shoe Fayre *googles* I got ShoeZone which isn't the same place. Or certainly not as it used to be anyway.

From your picture I'd go for M&S or BHS, maybe Debenhams. From either of these, the umbrellas will last longer than a year.

I bought one from superdrug in 2006, it's still going strong and lives in my handbag pretty much throughout the year.

I can recommend one of these! They work - they do not fold inside out at the first suggestion of wind - they might struggle in a hurricane but the best umbrella(s) I have ever had.

Sorry to quote the obvious but have you asked about your lost umbrella at the bus company depot? Apparently they get hundreds handed in and no one bothers to ask for them back... There are some honest people out there you know :)

I am using Fulton. They are light, small and wind resistant. It cost something like £8 from TKMaxx

If it was local to me I would of asked. I had gone to a wedding miles and miles away. Postage back to me would cost more than a new brolly I think.

    Shame, just a thought :)
Years ago my mother handed a found umbrella into a police station while she was on holiday in the Lake district, about a hundred miles away from home. Six months later a policeman returned it to her at home as it hadn't been claimed! Don't suppose that it would happen these days eh?
