UK resident for less than 3 years

Hi All,

Both my boyfriend and I are living and in full time permenant employment in the UK.My boyfriend is going into his 3rd year here and I am going into my 2nd year. We are trying to obtain a car loan for c.£7000 but can go for less however to avail of all cheap APR rates it shows that you need to be living in the UK for 3 years - does anyone know of a way around this, is it possible to say we are here 3 years when we aren't and what could the potential consequences be? Grateful of any responses as soon as possible. Thanks in advance

  • You will be committing fraud .
There is no way round it unless your bank in Ireland think you are worth a punt.

  • we managed to get a credit card after only being back in UK for 6 months (over a decade away), but were on electoral roll, in a permanent job and could provide our previous address overseas- I guess this all added up to an acceptable risk.

Banks just want addresses for 3 years- not necessarily that you have been in UK for 3 years....but of course they still will only offer if you are considered a worthwhile risk!

I got a mortgage approved before moving to Northern Ireland from the Republic with absolutely no UK credit history and no UK address.

Try getting a copy of your Irish Credit Bureau history for 6 euro and providing that to a local branch. That's what I did for the mortgage. Of course, if the ICB report is bad, this isn't a viable option.

It would be a pretty crap requirement if there was a simple way round it.
