    old thread but i bought the 7.5kgs for £3 today in farmfoods

    and that these days is cheapest i found for potatoes which seem to have shot up in price
  • we had a bag before christmas, they were very watery if that makes sense. when boiled they turned to mush, and didn't roast very well either.
  • Maris piper are not a good potato for cooking - as you say they turn to mush - I never buy them. But it tends to be about the only variety that supermarket stock in the bigger sized packets. Why not try and see if you have a local farm shop or market stall who offer different types and often at much reduced prices. Some stall holders will carry your large bags to your car for you. If you can buy unwashed ones as well - they keep longer. I bought 12.5kg for £4 up the road from where I live last week and they are not washed, so last several weeks.
