Gym contract cancellation help!

Hi everyone,
I'm about 6 months into a 12 month gym contract and I'm really not able to afford it any more. When I took the contract out I was living at home, but when that became unbearable (won't go into details) I had to move out into a flat share, so my living costs have gone up.
I was going to write to the company to explain my situation and offer token payments, but I wanted to see if anyone else has done a similar thing?
Thanks!
P.S. It's not a gym chain, just a local leisure centre.

Does it say on the contract that it is for 12 months, surely you should be able to write and give one months notice to quit, explain your finances will not allow any extra spending so you are cancelling the contract, failing that I am not sure what you could do.
Been here for a long time and don't often post

Try the letter by all means, they might hold the membership or more likely, discharge it to a DCA for you to arrange payments with.0
