Garters - who's wearing them and why?

and am I odd for not having one.

wasn't really sure of the tradition behind it all but googled it and it said it is normally thrown to all the single men in the room similar to the bouquet toss for women. now i'm not doing the bouquet toss because they are going to be one of my keepsakes (artificial flowers), but does anyone do the garter toss thing these days or is that mainly an american tradition?

I wore one, mainly because my MIL had bought me one for my 'something blue' even though i already had I DO blue diamonties for my shoes. I can see why you would throw it as it drove me crazy all day, glad i have it for a keepsake but kept thinking my stockings were coming down all day but it was my garter. I think if the man is throwing it he goes under your dress to get it with his teeth....and i certainly wasnt letting my new husband do that infront of an audience!

My sister gave me as part of my something blue, but I thought it would just annoy me so decided not to wear it!

I had artifical flowers and there was no way I was going throw them, but when I picked my flowers up from my mil (she made all the flower arrangements for me as that is what she does for her job), she had used up the left over flowers and made me throwing bouquet! I didnt do a proper throw- but occasionally chucked it at my sister as its an ongoing joke that she should be next, but her oh is yet to propose!!:rotfl:

I wore one in my OH's team colours. I didn't throw my bouquet (I was telling people all day it was going on my grandma's grave) or take my garter off - that was reserved for MrMRN in privacy.

I'm wearing one but won't be throwing mine. I've got one as I've gone all out with stockings etc so thought why not.

I also won't be throwing my flowers. Ive opted for artificial, I'll be keeping one flower and taking the bouquet to my Grandad's grave.

I wearing for my something borrow! my SIL did the garter toss at hers and my bro wedding the men danced around them with their backs towards them in a circle whilst it was removed it's a mexician tradition.
