Bad day continues bad year

Having a total nightmare.

I'm beginning to wonder why I bother. Both my wife & I work, I am a software dev & she is an analyst. We earn a good wage between us.

My wife has been back at work after maternity for 4 months now. I figure we had it quite lucky over the two maternity periods we have had in the last 4 years. No mountainous debts. We survived. Just. Savings got pillaged to nothing however.

Since going back to work, childcare has risen to 500.00 a month, and over the 6 week period of holiday, nearly 900.00 ouch. I cant believe how dear care is.

Also since going back to work, the oven broke, the hoover broke, the laptop broke, the washing machine broke, a 1800's sash window broke and an external door of our property completely broke requiring a complete new one. The bank of mum and dad have been drained and we are now struggling.

Earlier in the week we find one of the cars dripping oil & my car on the way home today completely died. The first car is a 100.00 problem, but mine is more like a 1000.00 problem.

What terrible things must I have done to deserve all this??? Things used to be so good. But now, things seem very dark. I have the weight of the world on my shoulders and I hate myself for not seeing this sneaking up.

what should I do?? I have to have the car fixed, but there is no way I can afford that & my parents have been good enough to me as it is.

  • Hello,

I am sorry things are so bad for you and that you are in a dark place at the moment.. Can I ask whether there is a chance you may be somewhat depressed at the moment? I think depression creeps up on people without them realising and there is a paragraph in your post that sounds like you may be.. A GP visit may help.. (I hope you don't mind me saying this..)

As for your debt.. from reading MSE I don't think any debt is a problem that can't be fixed if you have the mindset that you want to fix it.. I am sure someone a lot more experienced will come along and give you better advice but I would suggest posting up a SOA so that people can comment and give feedback..

Ps... Please don't feel that you are alone, there are many people who have been in the same situation as you (if not worse) and managed to get through.

  • Sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it at the moment :( Life really knows how to pile on the problems!!

Perhaps filling out a statement of affairs and posting it here would help people give some advice. I don't know what your debt or credit circumstances are - is there the option of borrowing on a 0% credit card to pay for the items you need quickly? With some budgeting you may be able to plan for how to pay this off without incurring too much interest.

sorry to also hear your problems. Sadly it does all come at the same time. Our washing machine, lab top, boiler , vet bill and a poorly mum all hit us 3 weeks ago. Plus our building work still isn,t finished as we haven,t got the spare funds at the moment.

    chin up.
:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling
