Debt collector

Hi all
Okay so have been ignoring my debt for a while and have received a few letters recently. Just opened the door to some old guy who I seen at another house and asked if I was 'my name' and I said yes not expecting it to be a debt collector!! Anyway was to set a repayment method up for a outstanding debt to tsb. I stupidly gave them bank details for a standing order and thinking should I have done that?!!

Should have added it was credit services limited. I have 3 different debts with tsb. I know one isn't with a agency yet at tsb sent me a letter last week. Is it possible for me to call TSB and pay them direct?0

I would ask my bank for advice on this one. Did the 'debt collector' give you any paperwork.
Are you sure you didnt give him direct debit details.0 -
Call your bank immediately. Get them to create a new account for you, move everything over to it immediately and close the other one as fast as you can.
You do not give them details for a standing order, you give them details for a direct debit, which means they can take funds from your account.
Is the debt actually yours? Did he prove that you owed the funds? Did he give you copies of a credit agreement etc? If not, you might well be paying something you don't actually owe!
Close your account immediately, and call and write to the debt collectors to tell them you withdraw your consent for them to use the details you gave them. Tell them to send you proof of the debt and details of the account, and their details for you to set up a repayment plan, which YOU do at YOUR bank.
Never, never give your bank details to a DCA.Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

aww no your kidding! how fast can the bank open me a new account?0

I disagree with BB on this one - there is another way without changing your account (and a DD authority might be transferred if you do).
I would call your bank and tell them that you set a DD up on your doorstep under duress and tell them to cancel it.
The follow up with a letter to the bank to confirm the telephone conversation that they will cancel the DD and if they make any payments, they are not authorised under the Payment Services Regulations 2009. You will therefore be seeking an immediate refund of such payments if they are made.
Then find the doorstep template letter and send it to the DCA.BSC No 248

It was account number and sort code. It was form saying standing order. For £25 a month from the 12th october.0

OK.
Simply write to the bank to cancel it, you could add that it was agreed under duress on you doorstep - but you don't need to. Give the standing order form time to arrive at your bank - so this time next week is probably about right.
Then phone them up on or around the 5th of October to make doubly sure it is cancelled.BSC No 248

do you owe the cash? if so call ltsb to confirm they were acting on their behalf. if you can afford and owe no need to change.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thanks guys
Yeah I owe it, I will call TSB on Monday and see if I can arrange some kind of repayment through them. I appreciate all the advice - the fright I got is enough to make sure a payment is never late again!0
