hi, my partner and I both got wonga loans (to pay for some unexpected wedding costs) and i know that it wasnt the best idea we had but i had started a job 2 & 1/2 months previous & was working 40+ hours per week and knew we could pay it back until my boss decided that he wasnt going to pay me atall for any of the work done
the payments was due at end of august and i contacted wonga on the 20th aug, they sorted mine out but my partners is now in default incurring more charges, i have contacted them 6 times now by email and other than their first reply (which i replied to aswell) not heard anything back, i contacted customer care and they have said to ring them but advice on this website says to only deal in writing.
i am trying to repay but not getting owt back, do i just wait until they decide to reply or keep trying? and do i contest the charges as i tried sorting it out early?
does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this before i loose my mind with them

got an email from them today saying that they dont arrange payment plans via email and i must ring them

The advice of "writing" is by signed for post normally, not by e-mail.

Companies take a lot more notice of signed for post then they do of calls or emails.
  • From the OFT guidelines on debt collection

"Also, some debtors may request contact by email rather than by telephone. "

They may request but it doesnt have the same impact as wiriting a letter and getting it signed for which leaves a trail if evidence is later required.

Emails and return receipts or tracking headers are easily "lost" or on the other side easily faked.
  • thankyou for information will send them it by recorded delivery, i just dont understand why they dealt and set up my partners by email but refuse to deal with me by email, they sent me an email saying they dont grrrrrr
on their help section it gives their email as a point of contact!
    im very confused lol
i got a reply to my first email and all it said was
"Offer of payment towards the Wonga loan?"
so i replied but that was it, no answer

should i contest the charges as i made contact with offer 11 days before it defaulted?

For something like this, there would be nothing stopping you phoning (unless you'd rather not) and asking them to confirm anything they agree by e-mail, or indeed, just e-mail them confirming what they've said. Although it's not a fail-safe legal protection, it is a paper trail which would potentially be useful in the future.

Sometimes companies are more agreeable on the phone as well as they like to speak to customers directly, so there's a chance they might be more helpful.

Good luck though, I always like things to be in writing of some kind too!
  • I emailed them again and they have dropped all charges including default charge back to the 20th august :j
Ive given up sorting stuff myself im calling in CCCS.

thankyou all for the help xx
