Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I bought a fridge freezer and cooker from currys. I asked could I get this with 9 months interest free and they said yes no problem but when the assistant was putting the details through he put it through as a 4 year loan. When I questioned this he said it was standard and that I had to set up a standing order to ensure that the money is paid within the 9 months.
Now two weeks after buying I have had no contact from the finance company detailing the payment schedule and banking details. Without these I cannot set up the standing order. On the paperwork I got from currys there is no contact number for the finance company (HFC Bank Ltd). So what I'd like to know is if anyone else has bought anything from currys with 9 months interest free credit. And if so how long after the purchase did you receive details from the finance company.
I would really like to set up the standing order asap as if all of the money isn't paid within the 9 months then the total amount payable increases from £1920 to £3111!!!.
Any info would be appreciated.

Personally i'd ring them. they are based in wellington place, belfast and their listed phone number is 028 90313236.
I'd imagine a simple phone call will direct you to the correct department.
Don't expect them to be terribly pro-active though, they only make money when people 'forget' to clear the loan in nine months, hence the '48 easy payments' option.
From memory i think you can post them a cheque or pop into a branch with a payment0 -
Thanks for that. I gave them a ring and they told me it can take up to 20 days for the account to be set up to I'll have to wait a bit longer.0

Did the same a few years back with currys for 18months and payments came out the next month as the 18 month deadline approached, HFC sent me a nice wee reminder to pay off the remaining couple of hundred quid before a certain date;)
Did this OK and all was fine, no interest paid at all
However I feel if Currys etc offer 18 months interest free they should get 18 payments to cover the price of the product and not £2 a month followed by a lump sum at the end of it:mad:
My father had one of these too and he paid off the extra shortly after purchase to be sure it was done, that month they didn't take the DD out of his account as they counted the in bank payment as covering it. If you wish to make extra payments mark them extra payments in the bank itself;)I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

I wouldnt rely on them to send you a reminder, but its nice that they did in your experience.
Also again, HFC are offering a service to currys, and they make their money by people not paying in time, so they will always opt for some sort of tiny payment monthly then bump it up after the interest free period. Otherwise they simply wouldnt make any money.
Also another one they do is time the end of the interest free period to coincide with holiday times like christmas or summer hols, ie march time deals tend to be for nine months, january deals tend to be for 12 months - scheduled to end when people have no spare cash to pay off the lump sum, thus have to take the payment option.0 -
Still having received no contact from HFC I rang them again to be told that my application is still at the application stage i.e. the credit agreement has not yet been agreed. The guy on the phone said he has no idea why this is the case after so long (1 month after purchase), and that I should contact the store to find out why. He also told me that the 9 months interest free hasn't started yet as the credit agreement has not yet been finalised. I find this all a bit strange since I have had the goods delivered weeks ago.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Should I go to the store and see if they have any further information or should I just wait and see what happens?0 -

if you don't have a contract don't worry as they cannot get a payment from you and you cannot get sent to court without one so just just wait for a contract if none comes then you got a free item lol take care.0 -

I dont think they do 9 months interest free deals anymore - this thread was resurrected from three years ago...
Your best bet would be an interest free credit card - use the main board to find the best deal.0 -
Just reading through the posts here, about Currys. My husband and I went to Sprucefield to buy a new cooker, and saw the one we wanted. We paid by debit card, and the man dealing with us was not happy that we did not want to take out insurance, quite arrogant we thought. Why on earth not asks he. My husband said we did not want it and that was that. We were told the cooker was not in stock so would have to order it in, so as the cooker is a ceramic hob, it would be £49.45 to have it connected, and also we were charged £14.95 for express delivery. The money came out of our account right away and we are still waiting to hear about it. The customer service is terrible, and finally a woman was able to come back to tell us it would be delivered this Friday, but not definite. They will ring us to arrange a time. I thought it was free delivery but only if it is done online. Crafty!!! Well we have decided that after this purchase we will not ever buy from them again.Do a little kindness every day.;)0
