Time off for interview?

As the policy says you are entitled to take the time for the interview, your manager has no right to refuse you the time - and you've done the right thing by seeking HR advice.
Hope it went OK with your manager.0 -

The manager can find a reason to sack or give OP a warning though. When your superior wants to sack you, he'll find a way.0 -

Whilst this may be true in a small company without stringent HR advice and union representation, in the NHS there are so many policies and guards against a rogue manager doing this that I think the employee is generally safe.
Furthermore, the contact with HR has already been made and noted, so if there are subsequent problems the file has already been started.
Grievance policies are, I should have thought, well developed if the manager starts being stupid.0
