They've set up the company, but still no bank account, apparently due to the amount of openings they need to make (why leave all this to the end of the year?). Anyway, i'm a bit fed up with them, so I could do with a recommendation if that's possible?
I'll send you a private message with a handful of potentials...0 -

Yes.
Most people chose a parent or a spouse. Having a spouse can cause trouble if you get divorced.
Alternatively you can find companies/people who you can pay about £120 a year to be a company secretary for you.
Company Secretaries are due to be abolished for small companies sometime early next year. (Can't remember the exact date as the government changed it.)I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Just discovered this particular forum. We set up a ltd company a few years back and used an online company called Jordans who charged approx £200 for everything, the formation, the articles of associattion, the seal etc etc. website is http://www.jordans.co.uk/

Why does the accountant need to charge up to £700 for this?
I'm currently a sole trader, and although a pain in the !!!!, I manage to file my own tax returns each year without paying a penny.
The first part of your question - you dont pay an accountant £700 to form a LTD co - far too expensive.
The second part - you pay an accountant to do your return because, as you say, its a pain in the butt.
Mowing lawns and cleaning windows is also a pain which is why we have gardeners and window cleaners.0 -
i've just signed up with an accountancy firm specialising in contractors that was recommended to me by other contractors on a contracting forum, have you had a look at these? i'm paying £60 a month all in with NO setup fees.0
