Wedding Ring Engraving - After the day?

Just wondered if anyone else has had their wedding ring engraved after the event?

I was never really bothered about having it done at the time, but I've been thinking about it a little more recently...I tend to take my ring off quite often, as I do a fair bit of exercise...and I just keep thinking "if I lost it, how would I describe it?" - of course, I could tell them the size, metal, shape etc, but I think having it engraved would really help identify it if it were lost.

But then, I view it as a gift from my wife, I guess...and it seems if it were going to say something, it should have been a message from her...so I just don't know what I'd have written in it now, or whether it's just not the done thing. I'm all in a quandary about it :)

Maybe I could just give it to the wife and say "get something engraved on this please, love" and see what happens? (maybe buy her flowers first, just in case ;))

  • If you have a plain band I'd strongly recommend it (even just initials and date?). We found a wedding band on a beach - it had no distinguishing markings so after a few months with the police it came back to us. I often wonder the about the man who lost it (and how much trouble he got into!). Had there been some way of identifying it he might have got it back...

I've found a wedding ring before now too, but it was just on the floor next to the bins in a rainy Manchester. Nobody claimed it so I took it to the charity shop!

I think having your initials and the date is a good idea. I wouldn't just bung it at the wife though. You could suggest getting both your rings engraved?
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

Interesting. I guess it makes me cynical, but if I found a ring on a beach, I'd assume it had been thrown into the sea - so I wouldn't expect anyone to be looking for it :)

Her wedding ring's too small to be engraved, it's teeeny!

I guess having the date would save me forgetting the anniversary, too...Wonder if there's space in there for her birthday, too ;)
