Nylon Overalls and Hairdressing Gowns

I hope someone here may be able to help me. I am not a professional hairdresser, but have been cutting the hair of family and friends for many years now and have decided to set up a mirror and a chair in the corner of one room to do it. I have decided to give the area a theme, of a 1970's hairdressers. Ihave been looking around to try and buy some nylon overalls and hairdressing gowns that would suit the theme but have not been able to.

I have tried ebay, but can't seem to find anything quite right. I was wondering if anyone knew if anyone still made and sold these types of overalls and gowns. I assume someone must, but unfortunately I can't seem to find them.

    Hi mayBrown!

    Welcome to MSE

I don't mean to be rude, but are your clientele elderly or very young and into retro?

I ask because I would hate to wear something like that when I was having my hair done, it would make me feel so frumpy. I'm middle-aged and prefer my salon to have a chic, simple, clean and contemporary style.

Just wonder why you think a seventies theme would be appealing to clients?

I don't want you to be offended by my comments, am just curious.

    Bron

This stockist has some gingham ones in different colours.
  • Hi Bron

I am not offended by any of your comments. They are not really clients at all, they are just family and friends and I am just really after the period overalls and gowns because I like them and they remind me of that era

Ah,I see, thanks! Hope you are lucky and find something suitable, I will google again and see if there are any I can find lurking about! It was entertaining finding on ebay those nylon quilted dressing gowns with the metallic braid, I'd forgotten all about them, always used to have one lol!
  • Hi May, I love your idea for the salon. You'll be pleased to know you can still buy lovely new nylon overalls in the UK :j

Unfortunately this site doesn't allow links but if you google "Annies overalls" and/or "Cosy comforts" you will see a great range of nylon overalls still available from new in the UK today.

Any "Sally" hairdressing supplies wholesalers will stock hairdressing gowns too, but if you wanted to treat yourself to a more luxurious selection, including some pretty shoulder capes, maybe have a look at ebay.de (Germany) and search "friseur umhang"

The very best of luck with your funky salon, it sounds fab and I'm sure it will be a fun place for a haircut! :)

    Best wishes,

    Marcus

    Dont forget all the rules.

You need permission from your landlord or your mortgage provider.

    You need public liability insurance.

You probably need to ring HMRC for advice

    Health and safety rules.

    etc. etc. etc.

Its not just as simple as setting up a chair and a mirror, even if it is just for family and friends.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
