Employer Credit Checks

Could somebody please tell me what information can be seen by a potential employer who wishes to carry out a credit check prior to commencement of employment?
I don't object to them doing this to find out if anything is seriously wrong (i.e to verify my identity/address etc) but I don't see why they should be allowed to know things like balances on individual cards etc.

There seems to be a lot of this around. They can see everything you owe, if you have and CCJ. agreements to pay, late payments etcCould somebody please tell me what information can be seen by a potential employer who wishes to carry out a credit check prior to commencement of employment?

Almost all employers dont actually do the credit checks or CRB checks themselves but use outside agencies to do it for them and so they themselves just receive a simple report but the company doing the actual checks can see the same as what a lender would see when you apply for credit (ie what you owe, what lines of credit you have, if your payments have been made on time for the correct amount etc)0

If you're applying for a finance/accounts role with access to money, this is not uncommon. They're just checking that you're not in such financial difficulties that you'd be tempted to commit fraud with their money.0 -
In my experience it's not the one with debts that commits fraud.Aryndeneth wrote: »If you're applying for a finance/accounts role with access to money, this is not uncommon. I had a credit check done for my last job and asked for a copy, all it was was the experian credit score, no details of my accounts.0
