i am currently on JSA, but i have finally been offered a full time job, but it doesn't start for another 4 weeks yet.
i got to go and sign at my JCP on friday, but just wondering how/if it will affect my jsa when i tell them on friday.
would i still need to search for jobs until my start date, to keep getting my money JSA, and sign again in a couple of weeks?
thanks

Keep looking for work and do not tell the JC you have a job till the very last minute then sign off 1 day before or the Friday before you start.i am currently on JSA, but i have finally been offered a full time job, but it doesn't start for another 4 weeks yet.

I agree with the above.
The job centre have silly rules they like to implement.
In march I had found a job. I went and signed on on Thursday and told my advisor I start working the Monday coming up. We sat down and she went through job details like where it's based, the wages, the employer etc. Then after she asked me if I had brought with me my job search book. I said no. I assumed I wouldn't need it because I had already accepted a job. They she looked me dead in the face and said "You need to bring it everytime you attend the job centre".
I sat there thinking I had missed something. This is not really related to your story but it shows how silly they are.
I'm sure if you told them you start work in 4 weeks time they would still say you need to try and find work in the mean time.0 -
Just say you have a potential job, that you've been for an interview, but don't tell them about the offer yet. For the reasons stated above.0

honestly speaking you ARE still looking. If someone offered you a dream job or tripple wages you'd drop that one.
Therefore you are still job seeking till the day you start in reality.
Oh and good luck and congratulations on the new job0 -
I wouldn't tell them, TELL THEM when you're working there phone them up.
or just say you want to sign off don't need to mention a 'job' will cause you hassle this will and you'll end up lose money your entitled to....
no harm in it,
(well some of the good citizens on MSE will think different) but no harm in it....• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C
• Nationwide Old A/C0 -
You have to be available for work and there could be a temp job for 4 weeks which would suit you nicely.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Thanks for the advise
out of curiosity, at the end of the tax year would i be entitled to a tax rebate?
a few years ago i left a job half way through the tax year to go travelling and wrote a letter to the tax man for some money back, which i did.
does it work the same way as i'm starting half way through a tax year0 -

Your JSA is taxable. You will eventually get a P45 with a tax code. Your new employer will apply that code which, given there's half the tax year left now, should give them enough time to ensure you will have paid the correct amount of tax before the new tax year. You'll probably pay little if any tax to start with.0 -
First of all Congratulations on the new job. I was in a similar position several years ago where I had a concrete job offer that started a few weeks into the future.
As has been stated, to be eligible for JSA you must be seeking a job at all times - so as long as you are seen to be doing that, then there shouldn't be any problems.
Whether to tell the job centre straight away is a matter of personal preference. In my case I actually told them and for the 2 times I signed on after that things seemed a lot more "relaxed" as they knew I'd be 'gone soon'. But there's no way of knowing if it would be the same for you. Just remember to keep looking meanwhile...........Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -

that is what i was thinking of doing. thankfully the staff at my JCP are great, friendly helpful, and some would probably be pleased they are getting rid of me and happy that i have a job (even though i have been volunteering since january and applied to literally 100's of jobs).
but then again the last 2 times i have been to sign on, i have signed with 2 new people, so they would most likely do things by the book. 1 was really thorough and i was there for around 20 mins, other people its just a case of them checking my search, me signing and thats it (1-2mins) cos they know i'm self sufficient :j0
