Hello, i want to work as a postman,
I applied a while back and was unsuccesful - its all online so i dont know why.
firstly are there any tips for applying online - i enjoy riding my bike, i am reletively healthy, and feel its a great way to stay that way, I have no problems with the early starts, and the hours fit in with childcare for my son - so how do i progress my application - how do i get this across to the recruitment team?
My current and previous roles are office based, i hate it in an office, in doors all day long. listenign to other peoples problems / noise etc, and seeing my hard work earning other people money.
I see they are recruiting for christmas staff - if i went that route would i be offered a permenent role (if did the job well)
Are there any post people that can assist me?

permanent?
Unlikely. RM are shedding staff left right and centre
casuals (so much so they have their own agency)and part timers are the future of RM
You would be likely to be working in the mail centre and an xmas casual
So you would be indoors listing to other people problems and seeing your hard work earning the manager their bonus
If you are working in a delivery office, then have a serious think with regards ot hours and childcare
Eg if you have a 2pm finish, don't expect to finish at that time very often0 -
thanks,
I was aiming for a postman position though, i am more the nhappy to do the hours to get the job finished, but doign a 6-2 or whatever the hours are work better then9-5 for me..
seems really difficult to get into though, i do a 30mile search for where i live and occasionaly get a saturday shift, or 1 day mid week...0 -

The 'agency' is now dead mate, as for permanent? only if you have family in the mail centre's or the DO'S you can get stable permanent,
the place is fk'ing CORRUPT
(trust me i was a mail sorter for many years)• HSBC (Main A/C)

I applied last week for a job advertised locally as a casual postman, did the online application and also the 2 online assessment tests. Just waiting to hear back now, don't know if i will or not. Nearly all jobs go through Angard Staffing now, which is an agency connected to Royal Mail, just a way for them to keep costs down it seems.
Royal Mail take on thousands of Christmas casuals every year but after Christmas nearly all are gone and some only work for 1 or 2 weeks in December.0 -
Hi
I've been a post woman for nearly 3 years now and I love it.
I was a financial controller before so I wouldn't say it was stressful but it is very hard work physically - be prepared to only sleep and deliver mail for the first 4 weeks at least!
The bikes are being phased out and we're all on shared vans now so most offices require you to have a driving licence. When this changeover is done the rounds become very long they're supposed to take 4 hours but 5 is a minimum - on heavy days you will be looking at 6 or 7 and getting paid overtime for it is extremely rare.
Can't really help with the on line thingy I thought I'd done terribly on mine but I still got the job!
Although there has been a lot of redundancies the drop out rate for delivering is very high so vacancies do come up.
Good luck!0 -

You know, I have been thinking the same as OP. I quite fancy the idea of getting out of an office based role, and getting some excercise. Being stuck in an office is very stressful
I have an uncle who is a postman and absolutely loves it.The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

There is no future in RM
Deliveries will be sold off
there will be some deal done to retian wages/conditions for X years with some payment/share deal
After X years the workforce will be decimated0
