I am slowly eating the Cod my parents caught in Norway and making space in the freezer (long story)
I would like to 'get ahead' and cook up some soups/linches/meals and freeze them for 'convenience food'
Just wanted some ideas on what you would normally batch cook and what you freeze the food in? I tend to use zip lock bags for soup and freeze them sitting in a tuppaware so they freeze square..but it takes ages!
The meals I would like to freeze in a 2 person portion for me and the OH.
I am sure there is an existing thread but there are so many on here I could nto find what one...

We only really batch cook bolognese sauce. I used to freeze it in takeaway cartons, but they are almost all gone now - think freezing is a hard life for them. I did get some from a pound shop, but not great quality and since then I have been using plastic food bags. The advantage of those that I find is that they are not square and slot in spaces easier.0

I like to buy big packets of mince and make a large bolognese sauce then freeze it in batches. Some of it can be made into lasagne, some spag bol, some pasta bake. Or you can add kidney beans and Tabasco and turn it into chilli con carne. I've even used leftover bolognese to form the base for shepherd's pie.
I use old take away containers for freezing as they stack up one on top of the other.0 -
i use washed out marg and icecream tubs...i look out for cheap containers when out...ikea do nice onesonwards and upwards0

I always have plenty of soup frozen and make curries and casseroles that can be quickly got out of the freezer in the morning for later on.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I freeze leftover veg, scoops of mash, moussaka etc and casseroles. I haven't batch cooked in a while as my second freezer is off, but will probably get it going again soon when the weather turns (now, then?)Bossymoo

It's been a while since i batched cooked, but i was acually thinking earlier i'm gonna do a big batch of savory mince for freezing to make into mince and sheperds pies, i might do a biig pan of stew that i can warm in the slowcooker (i'm funny in that i like my stew cooked on the hob i think the spuds are too hard done in the slowcooker) and some chicken in creamy sauce, then i can throw them in the slowcooker in the morning and all i have to do in the evening is something to go with them.DEC GC £463.67/£450

Soup, bolognaise, chilli, pasta sauce, mashed veg, mashed potatoes, stews/casseroles etc, gravy, muffins, cakes...lots!
I have some takeaway containers I got from a cash and carry type place but mostly I use washed out margarine tubs (put them through the dishwasher) and they get used over and over and over again. They're great. If I've run out of containers I use zip lock bags.0
