What should i do?

A "friend" from my past who I last saw/spoke to about 12 months ago has suddenly declared I owe him £1250.
He never gave/lent me any money - I have even checked my bank statements because I was so worried that I was mistaken - I dont really know why I checked because I know I never had any money from him.
I am worried that he will start telling other people that I owe him money and cause problems for me with other people.
Any thoughts?

Have him assassinated.
Seriously, ignore him.
He will only spread rumours, if he thinks it will upset/annoy/intimidate you.0 -
Tell him he's mistaken - he never lent you the money - and you have checked.
Worth asking why he's come out of the blue after all this time asking for money? Wierd.May 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin!
March 2019 - CC gone and bye bye M2 on 31st! £140k to go.:j0 -
Perhaps he thinks you should be paying him for services rendered? If he was a close friend and, for example, did some building or decoration work for you out of the kindness of his heart, perhaps he is in dire straits and has now decided that you ought to pay him. Don't be guilt tripped.
Don't worry about what other people think/say.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Maybe ask him what he thought he lent the money to you for, I am sure if I had asked to borrow that amount of money I would have said what it was needed for.
Been here for a long time and don't often post

I would ask him why exactly he thinks you owe him this money, and also ask for proof, bank transfer/receipt? Best of luck!Slowly chipping away at my debt...

If he thinks you owe him money, ask him what it was for. Also ask him if he has any paper work that you signed for the money, otherwise he wont have a foot to stand on!
