So, I fell off the wagon, then froze the cards....

Hey everyone
I havent been on this site for a while, Ive had a lot going on and the spending just kind of got out of control again. I should know better, I work in a bank and should be paying more attention.
Anyway, I havent forgotten what ive learned on this site so im putting into action a new debt free plan, im going to be debt free by the end of this year. Ive said this before, but failed, but this time I have the will and the motivation to get my life well and truly in order. Im already on a diet and have lost half of the weight I intended to, so Im proving to myself I can do whatever I need to do. :money:
So - This evening, I got all the bank accounts etc together and figured out exactly where I am, what I need to do, and then promptly froze any card that had debt associated with it. This includes my main bank account - the one with the horrendous overdraft, my credit card, and my store cards.
Im fully aware of snowballing etc, and ill be making use of this site again more regularly to get debt free. Ive opened two new cash card only bank accounts at work, one for bills, and one for my own cash (where I will pay my personal bills from, not the household ones) and organised standing orders etc, arranged for my pay to be sent to one of the new accounts, and closed the ISA's I had that I keep intending to use but never really do. I get sales bonus and annual bonus in July too and these are going straight into the debts. Ive claimed back my charges on the horrendous overdraft account too.
All thats left is to start looking for a good balance transfer deal to reduce the interest on the credit card, pay off the store cards asap, clear overdraft, and look at reducing household expenditure (back to moneysaving old style I go!!) and reducing cost of tv & phones etc.
Anyway - As you can tell, I dont really need advice or anything, I just need the mighty MSE crew to give me a cheer and encourage me onwards and kick my butt for falling off the MSE wagon before!

Well done on trying again!
You'll do it this time!0 -
Well come back!!!!
Yup, you will have them debts licked before you know it.
I think once you get control over one aspect of your life (like you have done with your weight) you find it so much easier to get other problem areas sorted.
Good luck, it will be nice seeing you on the board.0 -
good luck with everything and the freezsing of the cards, i tried this once and i found it ws too easy to unfreeze them when tempation hit, was easier cutting them up cos by the time you have caled to get new ones the temptations prob passed0

I cant tell you how much I agree with that! The end of last year had me signed off with depression which I managed to control, then came the weight and a bit of a mini makeover, and a SERIOUS spring clean (I was even having to change lightbulbs that went out 3 months ago  ) and then the finances (quite possibly the most scary).
Im back at work (have been since the middle of Jan) and my performance has seriously improved, as has my enjoyment of it. Im also determined to get promoted within 6 months and am working my butt off to get it.
Its amazing how much influence taking control of one aspect of life has over another part - I literally feel as though I could build my own house and create an empire.
(Sorry for waffling!)

Hehe! Im using a free american site to track everything and do more exercise - im not sure if im allowed to post the name or not, but its called sparkpeople. Im finding it helpful simply to track exactly what im eating and do more exercise, and im losing on average around 1.5 - 2lbs a week. Thats not to say its a doddle, ive been craving junk food badly this week but I guess ill get over it!
As im kind of competitive by nature, the site appeals to me because you collect points (which in reality mean nothing!) for everything you do and I like to try and get as many as I can - its like diet brownie points or something. Also, its free and im sure its a comprehensive as any UK paid for diet site (not that ive tried them or anything), its got forums and all the rest of it too and doesnt advocate anything other than a healthy calorie reduced diet with plenty of water, sleep and exercise, and a side order of motivation.
Ill shut up now!
