TV License court summons

Hi,

I'm new on here so I hope I've posted in the right part.

I received a court summons for tv license which I am going to plead guilty by post, I wondered if anyone knows do I have to send Copys of my wages slips off to proof my income? I have filled in the fincial circumstances part; however I'm not sure if I have to send proof.

Thanks.

Not sure this is posted in the right place, but hey ho!

No, you don't have to send off your wage slips to the court. Not sure if it's appropriate in your case, but could you not have avoided court? I very nearly had a summons by them but contacted them prior to this and set up a payment plan. Just because you've been summonsed doesn't mean it's too late to negotiate with them!
  • Are you actually guilty?
  • The summons says, that a TV license was not present for 1 month, which is true as I had to cancel the direct debit I had as I did not have enough money to cover the bill.

I've wrote this on the part of the summons were it asks you to, I've also put that the TV License is now set up to pay weekly which is alot better for me.
  • But are you actually guilty?

Were you watching and/or recording live TV, while the licence was not being paid?

That's not the offence - it's having equipment which could receive live TV. It doesn't matter whether you watch the TV or not, if you have one it needs a licence.

If you didn't have a TV on the premises for that month, say if it was away being repaired or something.... or maybe you accidentally cancelled the DD too early before the weekly arrangement kicked in...

No the offence is watching or recording live TV without a valid licence.

AFAIK no one has ever been found guilty of not possessing a TV licence, no warrant has ever been issued in relation to TV licences. It really is rather unenforceable.

    WRONG.

The offence is watching/recording live TV broadcasts.

Mere possession of a TV set, does not require a licence.
  • I stand corrected - the situation has obviously changed since I last had a TV licence ... over ten years ago.

My last TV blew up, I couldn't afford a new one, so I cashed in my licence and have never looked back! It's like waking up from a nightmare, and from what I gather from friends who do still watch it, the c@rp just keeps getting worse and worse :D

And if that is not bad enough, you read about the c**p tv in the newspapers constantly, i.e Towie, s**te faxtor etc etc!
    Waste not, want not!
