Good luck Catzoo, how you coping with the chemo?
Sal
xI was called in October early for 1st routine mamogram, age 49. They found a 6cm mass. I am now having Chemo aiming to shrink the tumour before surgery in Spring.
I have smallish boobs, and could not feel it myself. It is kind of flat against the chest wall.
Please go get checked0 -
Did you feel ok before you went for your mammogram? You had no idea?

Couldn't feel the lump and felt fine - I actually still feel fine apart from the misery and pain from the surgery and the stretching I have to do ever day. I find out what chemo etc I have to do this week Not looking forward to that bit!Noli nothis permittere te terere

She did take loads of images, but afterwards I was waiting in the waiting area for an ultrasound and she called me back saying she had missed a bit . If I hadn't been waiting for an ultrasound then that would probably have been a recall.0

Thats interesting that you say you needed loads of images.
When I went to the mobile unit, I seemed to be in and out an awful lot faster than what I was the very first time I went, three years prior to that. I mentioned it to my friend and said it seemed to be really quick this time and I don't remember being asked to go into as many positions either.
Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself, I've got all sorts of terrifying thoughts going round my head.

I have no evidence to back this up unfortunatley, but someone told me that mammograms pick up lumps 3 years before you feel them, so if you have a mammogram every 3 years and you were clear last time even if you have something sinister it will be very small and early stages, although the vast majority of lumps, as you know, are innocent.0 -
I've had a few mammograms and was called back for a repeat once . It was awful waiting ,my mind was working overtime which I think is natural . It was a cyst . I've had a few of those. Best wishes to all having treatment .0

I've been referred to the breast clinic (I'm 41). Not found a lump it's actually more of a dimple/hole that's appeared above my nipple.
I've been given 2 appointments, one for the mammogram on New Year's Eve and one for the 3rd Jan. The second appointment is to last 2-3 hours.
Can anyone tell me what they will be doing at the second appointment? The letter says "they will carry out all the necessary tests to investigate any breast problems". Does that mean a needle?:o0 -
A clinic examination involves "triple assessment" which is an examination by the doctor, a mammogram and/or ultrasound and a tissue sample, which does mean a needle unfortunately!
As you'll have already had the mammogram, they'll see if it shows anything and may want to do an ultrasound too (mammograms aren't as good for pre-menopausal women as younger breasts are denser). There's 2 types of tissue samples, either with a needle or one that takes a small "core" (which involves local anaesthetic so not as bad as it sounds! And it's only about 2mm across).
I've been at a breast clinic and all the women I met said it wasn't as bad as they thought it was going to be! Hope all goes well for you and you get good news.0 -
Thanks Skyllo. I was just a bit thrown by the two different appointments but with Xmas and New Year it was maybe the only way the could fit me in.
2mm sounds huge though lol0 -

That's just not true. Unnecessary treatment is a definite con - https://www.drbriffa.com/2011/10/20/mammography-can-cause-a-lot-of-unnecessary-anxiety-and-investigations/

Well, further update from me.
.
When I rang them on Friday to say I couldn't make the appt, they said someone would ring me back as they were all at a meeting. They hadn't rang back by later afternoon, so I rang again to be told they were all in clinic and it would probably be Monday before I heard from them.
I waited until 1pm today and still hadn't heard anything so rang them again only to be told they were in clinic and someone would ring me back. This time they did and I've been rebooked in for Wed at 10.30. She did say to me on the phone, that I could be fitted in after New Year and would I be ok with that?? I said yes, but I'd be out of my mind with stress and worry! So, she said if I went at 10.30 that would be ok as that was the latest that "he" ran his clinic. So the question, is "who is he?" - does that mean there is something and I'm not just going for another mammogram?!
