Names on deeds/Mortgage

Hi

I have today been speaking to L&C about a mortgage for myself, I need £50K on an £83k property. My partner is putting the rest in in cash, plus £20k for work needed on the house. I want to take the mortgage out in my name, he's self employed, no certified books etc, and have both our names on the deeds, but I have been told that for him to be on the deeds, he also has to be on the mortgage.

Can someone tell me if this is definatly the case?

Thanks

yes in this country it is. He would have to be a named occupant but you could safeguard his interest with a deed of trust drawn up by yor solicitor
