Financial associations

Hi
Me and OH have financial association through joint account with OD.
If we close the account, can we file notice of disassociation with CRAs once marked as settled on our reports? Or do we have to wait until it drops off?
It's our only joint financial product.
One of us has a fairly good credit record and would like to preserve it.
Thanks
HB
