Icky stain on dark purple velvet armchair

Hoping some brilliant old-styler has an idea here. I've read the old threads on velvet cleaning but none is quite what I need.
Basically my cat has sat on our lovely purple velvet armchair with an injured tail and there is now a nasty stain on the velvet from pus from the injury (I know, it makes me feel sick just typing it!). I'm scared of washing and dry cleaning in case it shrinks/changes colour, but at the same time I'm not sure what else to do. Steam it? If I just soak the affected area presumably it will look different once dry? Not really sure what I'm doing as you can probably tell!
THanks

I think the approach is: not too much water
not too much cleaning product
restore the nap.
