    Thanks Rich.

I've been reading these boards for a while now - usually in a state of panic but there are some very supportive people on here which is always good to see.

I have got through illness, losing jobs , marriage breakup, having to face incapacity and social secruity interviews after having a successful career.

I think I've got the successful career bit back (touch wood) I suppose I shouldn't let a snooty judge and the thought of having no bank account at all depress me too much!

I'd have a drink to relax myself but I recently became teetotal.Damn.:-)

    Thanks again everyone.
  • Sorry bit confused on this one .... i thought once you opened a co op a/c you were safe with your direct debits and monies paid into the a/c whilst going BR and after the deed .... have i got it right that until the OR sees you they could freeze ALL bank a/c's not just the usual high st ones ?

From what I have read on this and other forums it seems to down to the individual OR. Its the bank that freezes the account I think, but if the OR says they have no interest in it,then its up to the bank.It seems strange that if you have a basic account, with one of the banks that deals with Br's then you would have to lose it.
  • ok thanks that's put my mind at rest

Rog: I do have a friend who I could trust completely who would let me pay it into his account and the other thing is to pay it into my son's building society savings account. Do you think that is a possibility?

Either option sounds fine to me, Goldy.

I also agree with you when you say we are regarded, by most people, as lepers - that's why forums like this exist. Chin up - it COULD be a lot worse.

In my experience, if you were thinking of Bankruptcy you'd be bloody lucky to have achieved opening a basic account with the co-op before you did the deed. We applied for ours some 10 days prior to BR (23/03/07) and it is still not yet useable.... Apparently it is open but I have no account number as yet.

    Thanks Rog.

I feel slightly better today, a bit more positive and less shell shocked. I ended up having three glasses of wine last night and then had a really big cry!

The OR just phoned and she said I could keep the bank account open. She is writing to the bank so I suppose I will just have to wait and see if there is any come back from Nationwide.

She also said she would fax the letter over for speed if I gave her a contact name and number which really surprised me as I wasn't expecting her to be nice. I thought she would be frosty and detached and she seemed lovely. (touchwood)

My telephone interview is next week.

Savage vixen: that must be very frustrating for you to say the least.

Having been made bankrupt 8 th march 07 i had some trouble with banks,,was advised to go to nationwide, they let us have an account no problem,so you should be ok there, was with LTSB,but owed them money, was advised to open a new account, ended up at nationwide, hopfully they wont cause any problem.
