Truffle honey - what does it taste like ?

I have a question: what is 'truffle honey' supposed to taste like ?

I bought a jar of Italian acacia honey with a sliver of truffle in it from a shop called oil and vinegar

I opened it and it smelt quite acrid, peppery, sour and not how I imagined having never tasted real truffle.
I put a spoon of it in a bowl of porridge and it tasted as bad as it smelt, sour strong but not pleasant. I ate the porridge in case it was an 'acquired taste' and I just wasn't getting it. I couldn't even enjoy the taste of the honey.
Any way I definately did not acquire the taste and am not going to eat any more as for all I know and suspect this jar of Italian acacia honey may well just have a shaving of Italian cow poo in it.
Please advise - is it meant to taste revolting ?

Truffles are an acquired taste. I like them, and even I think they taste/smell of sweaty socks.

The idea of truffle honey is utterly vile: two things which should never, ever be combined. I would bin the stuff, and put it down to experience.

As others have said, truffles are definitely an acquired taste and porridge is not the way to try and acquire it! :rotfl:

Maybe try using it to glaze game or meat with a strong flavour (would work well with duck)? Alternatively, stick some on roast parsnips for a very fancy side dish.
