Can we change solicitor after application

Hi,

We're submitting our mortgage application with the Abbey today. IFA rang to ask for details of solicitor we're going to use, but we haven't decided yet as we're waiting on a quote. On'y had offer accepted on saturday an dwasn't expecting to find somewhere so fast. He said he couldn't submit the application without the details so gave him details of cheapest so far. Do you know if we can change this easily if we decide to go with someone else? We'd decide in the next couple of days.

Yes you can, the IFA just needs to fax Abbey with your new solicitors details, but make sure this is done before the mortgage offer is issued to avoid complications

When is the mortgage offer usually issued? Sorry but not sure of timescales with these things!

THe mortgage offer is normally issued upon receipt of a satisfactory survey.

With Abbey, they can sometimes issue the offer letter on the same day as the valuation is done, depending on how quickly the surveyor can transmit the the survey across to them, otherwise it could be the next day.

Getting a mortgage offer can be very quick, it is the legal work for the actual buying process that takes most of the time.
