Beneficial Finance - Complete and utter tools.
Options
Beneficial finance have been screwing me out of money for years on my personal loan. I had to use them because i had no credit history at the time and no-one else would touch me.
4 Years down the line and i want to pay the damn thing off and they're making it very difficult. Apart from the fact that because the APR is so huge, its max'd out my credit and no other companies will "debt consolidate" me. I also requested my settlement figure (3 weeks ago (which STILL hasn't arrived))
So i'm now stuck into paying another bloody month, which i really cant afford.
How is it possible in this day and age for them to say that the branch doesn't have the up to date figures so cannot give me a settlement figure over the phone. They have to send away to "head office" because all the detils are kept in a fireproof safe, which then has to be worked out, printed and sent to me via 2nd class.
Where as my GF rang her loan company (northern rock) they gave her the figure over the phone and even accepted a debit card payment there and then.
I'm sick of having to deal with non-ethical and frankly sh*te service & approach to customer relations.
I can stress enough to anyone who's thinking of using them for . . . ANYTHING steer well clear. You'd be better off using a loan Shark.
Is there anything i can do? Can i stick them with the ombudsman or something. Or go straight to HSBC head office?
Someone help me out please because i'm at my wits end with these people.
Thanks
J

I understand your frustration but don't see how you can say that you can't afford this month's repayment.
Any repayments made now will reduce the outstanding balance surely?0 -
Probably a mistake on my part for assuming they would do their job with some kind of efficiency before the next months payment was due (3 weeks is a bit unreasonable(Even if they do quote 14 WORKING days)).
I'd budgeted very strictly with the money i came into to enable me to stretch it as far as possible.
As far as this months payment reducing it, because of the amount of interest i'm paying on the damn thing it barley makes a dent in the settlement figure.

They sound very much like CITIFINANCIAL - another company to be avoided like the plague. They refuse to answer my letters asking for a settlement figure, no doubt hoping I'll go away.
I'm seeing a solicitor this week - and also taking along the finance agreement which I doubt is even legally enforceable.

I know how that feels, i sure thats what they're doing to me.
I just wish there was something i could threaten them with to get them moving??? Any ideas?
I've said I'll put the whole matter into legal hands if they don't reply to me (they've had 3 letters from me since mid Feb, and not replied to my request for a breakdown of how they arrived at their ridiculous settlement figure) I'd think they're probably used to legal threats, but an actual solicitors letter might waken them up.
I'm not sure whether the FSA can get involved with loans from non banking institutions such as Citifinancial, and don't really understand what the Financial Ombudsman can do to help.
Obviously they don't want the loan cancelled as it'll earn them a huge sum in interest (I really must have been mad to agree to it  ) but no way am I paying the settlement figure they quoted back in February.
Just one more reason why I'll never let my finances spiral out of control again and end up going to sharks like Citifinancial.
