Plug Plants £1 per pack in Wilkinsons

I went to my local Wilkinsons and all of the plug plants that you pot on to make bigger plants with 8 or 12 plants were on sale. The BBE date was 29/3/07 so although they have been sitting on the shelf all winter, they are now "damaged stock". Reduced from £2.99-£1.00. Worth checking your Wilkinsons as they were flying off the shelves.

lol:rolleyes:
they have not been sitting on shelf all winter. the plugs come in with a sell by date of around 2 weeks when they are delivered to the stores. any that have reached that date will be reduced to clear.;)0 -
Well, can you tell I'm not Percy Thrower!?!?
I'm quite impressed with my potting up though - looks professional if I say so myself!!There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -
Unless you are really lucky, the losses you get will make the individual plants cost just as much as a new pack. By buying a new pack you should het 100% take, the reduced ones are often 50% or less. I hope you are one of the lucky ones.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Wilkinsons stores currently have a pack of 6 Box Plants for £6.00. Fairly small but I bought some from them last year and so long as you pot them on or plant them out fairly soon they grow quickly. This is a great price for Box.
By the way, no they aren't for growing boxes!!

Wilko's did also have some fairly decent sized box plants though. They were £9.99 and they also had some even larger cone shaped ones for £19.99. Much cheaper than garden centres but it's the 6 for £6 which is the real bargain.

I was in today and all the "damaged" plants were 1p each. Must have been the dregs. I got any with any signs of life in them, 9 in total. King of the big spender me.
A couple are really ropey, but the rest look in pretty good condition really. I got 3 climbing ivys, that were £3.49 originally, that look great. Perfect for covering a wall and fence I'm been meaning to.
I've watered and fed them and left them all under the kitchen light, see how they go. Hopefully they'll pep up and I'll stick them out at the weekend.
Be warned though, watch out for pests. So far, I've spotted a slug, snail and aphids. Soapy water spray coming up!!0 -
I had a load reduced from Wilko last year and got 90% take up on them. I tend to grow my own but I find that Impatiens are a nightmare to germinate!
I got impatiens from home bargains 25 plugs for £1.69 and 20 geranium plugs for £1.99 from Netto. So far all are fine and I have 26, not 25 impatiens. Sown loads of petunias so hope lot number 2 germinate as the first lot haven't done as well as last year (had hundreds of the bu**ers!).3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Stick the slug and snail under your shoe and squash the aphids with your fingers! Best course of action!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Thanks. Er.... Not sure I like the squashing in fingers idea too much. Where's a bloody ladybird when you need one?!0
