Seasonal work

I am debating with myself as to whether to apply for seasonal work with a few retailers. I have in the past worked seasonally for other retailers but within their distribution centres but I am little wary as I have always been told there is a permanent job in it at the start of the work, but when getting closer to the new year I have always been let go.
Has anyone else experienced the same or have they got a permanent job through doing seasonal work?

I've had two seasonal jobs. 1 with HMVand 1 with Waterstones. In the first instance there were a few permanent jobs going but it was a sort of first come first served basis and since i was one of the last in the only one left was about 4 hours/week which wasn't suitable for me.
With Waterstones, there was only 1 permanent job going which I didn't get although I did get offered one a couple of months later (which i couldn't take but that was down to my personal circumstances).
It really is going to depend on the store and whether the roles are there after the new year. If you can't get something permanent at the mo then i'd say go for it because it is still a job and you could be searching for a permanent role while there.0 -
