Partner wants to runaway from new debt

I've said in other posts that my partner is running from his debt. He now wants to run from the debt we've built up together.

The debt that he now wants to run from is his £2000 overdraft and I think it he also wants me to run from my 2 credit cards and catalogue which altogether comes £5000 give or take.

I know that I should never have gotten out credit cards when I had no income but it was the only way for me to have any money at all. I know that's stupid as it isn't my money it's credit but I have never had a job and just wanted something as I have spent my whole life being looked after and never taught how to manage money.

My partner in my eyes is blaming me as I won't get a job. He thinks that I'm just using my depression and social anxiety as an excuse.

I don't know what to do, I've had moments in my life where I self harmed and felt suicidal but they we're over silly things but now that so much is as stake, I feel my thoughts creeping back to self harm or worse. I know it would just make things worse and I'm being selfish but I can't cope with the debt and being made to feel like I'm using anything as an excuse.

Well dont run from it fo a start, it will only catch up with you.

Its a small amoutn of debt so its workable for you to clear it. Does your OH work ? You applied for jsa or does your OH earn enough to cater for the 2 of you ?
  • He earns enough to cater for both of us but with the debt, we don't actually have any money left. All his wage goes straight to to the overdraft and we have no extra incomings.

I've tried to get him to look at this site but he sees no point as he says it will just tell him stuff he already knows.
  • Hi and good for you for posting :)

Firstly, I agree with DCFC79 - don't run! Ok maybe this site will tell you and your OH something you already know, but you gotta act on it too.

Can you post a Statement of Affairs on here so we can see your monthly expenses? There may be ways you can cut back on your spending and be able to pay off the debts.

    Good luck :D
